Progress

At the start of the year, we chose to develop our own Language Arts assessments in grades 2-6, emphasizing more open-ended questions, including short answer and essay.  We will be constantly refining these assessments as we learn from each other how to best assess our students ability to think and express their thinking.  The question remains as to how we will score and report these scores.  It is our responsibility to track the progress of all of our students on these measures to inform instruction and eventually to report our progress to School Site Council, our community, and the School Board.  We must answer some simple questions:

What percentage of students (and which ones) are proficient?

How are our subgroups (English Learners, Special Education, GATE) performing compared to all students?  Therefore…

What is the best manner for scoring, recording, and reporting our performance on these new assessments?
