Mix-it Up Lunch Day

Hello Salt Creek Staff:

We are happy to continue our affiliation this year with the Anti-Defamation League as a “No Place For Hate” school. The Safety Committee has decided to hold our 1st Mix-It Up Lunch Day on Thursday, February 2nd. On this day upper graders will have lunch with primary students. This will allow for a friendly mix during lunch to help build school spirit and community.  As you can imagine, the day’s schedule will be very different (morning recess & lunch recess), but it will be for ONE day only. Here is a sample of the schedule:

Some 1st and 4th grade classes eat lunch together

*An actual schedule will be given one week prior to the event.

We would like to challenge the upper graders to meet at least 3 new primary friends during lunch and  play a game with them during lunch time. After lunch everyone (including primary students) could write a short reflection about their experience. In addition, we will also benefit as a staff during this day since we will have the opportunity to eat with staff members we usually do not get to see. We propose that we make that a potluck day so that everyone comes to the lounge during lunch.

Last but not least, there are 5 posters hanging in our auditorium highlighting the “Resolution of Respect” promises that we should encourage as a “No Place for Hate” campus. Each student will have an opportunity to read the promises and sign their name on the posters. You may want to use this as a time to talk to your class about being safe, respectful and responsible.
The promises are:
1) I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
2) I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone – even if they are not like me.
3) If I see someone being hurt or bullied, I will report it to an adult.
4) Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy at school.
5) I want our school to be NO PLACE FOR HATE.

Please feel free to post your questions or comments here on the blog so we can all have access to the information. Thank you for your time.
