Open Ended Assessment Battle Plan

Must be the end of the quarter as the temperature is rising literally and figuratively! 🙂

Here are some modifications to the Open Ended Assessment Plan so that we can all get them done and stay sane in the process.

1st and 2nd grade will do their assessments on paper.  Natalie will copy those assessment for you ASAP.

3rd through 6th will do their assessments in the lab and I will schedule lab time for each grade level so that each class has between 1.5 to 2 hours blocked off to make sure every student has time to finish in one sitting, which is highly preferred. (don’t do multiple sittings without talking to me first)

Also, I suggest that you have the students read and annotate the texts in class before heading to the lab to answer the questions.  With that in mind, based on talking to a few of you this morning I will block off time for grade levels as follows:

5th Grade –  Feb 26-Mar 1 – since at least some of you want this info for report cards

4th Grade – after March 5th Writing (March 6-8)

3rd and 6th – Please indicate 2-3 days in the comments below where you would prefer to take this assessment and I’ll create  a schedule in the lab for your assessments.

Questions are welcome in the comments section.  Thanks for your flexibility in getting this and all the other quarterly assessments done.

  1. Kelly, Chan, and Dube all have computer lab on Mondays. If we can keep it this way, that would be great. If not, having us all on the same day would be preferred. This is the easiest way to work it into our rotations. Thanks.

  2. Are you open to making some changes to the 3rd grade assessment? There are a couple of questions that may be confusing for the students.

  3. Monday since Fridays are pretty packed days already.

    Possible schedule:
    Tuesday, March 5th: 8:15-10:00 (Teacher 1 receives 1 hour and 45 minutes)
    10:25-11:40 (Teacher 2 receives 1 hour and 15 minutes)
    12:30-2:15 (Teacher 3 receives 1 hour and 45 minutes)
2:15-2:45 (Teacher 2 returns and receives 30 minutes of the
    remaining time)

    Thursday, March 7th 8:15-10:00 (Teacher 4 receives 1 hour and 45 minutes)
    10:25-11:25 (Teacher 5 receives 1 hour)
12:15-12:45 (Teacher 5 returns to receive remaing 30 minutes)

    Monday, March 11th 8:15-10:00 (Teacher 6 receives 1 hour and 45 minutes)
    10:25-11:40 (Teacher 7 receives 1 hour and 15 minutes)
12:15-12:45 (Teacher 7 returns to receive remaing 30 minutes)

Please let us know if this works. If not, we’re open to suggestions!

  4. I noticed that the beginning part of my message was deleted. It was supposed to say that the third grade classes will be going on a field trip on Wednesday, March 6th so we will not be able to administer the test on that day. We are requesting March 5th, March 7th, and March 11th if possible, with minimum days shortening our time slots.

  5. Hello Dan,

We will be in the middle of 5th grade PE testing as well as wrapping up literature circles during the majority of the mornings of the last couple of weeks.
My class is available to take this test on the following days:

    Friday, March 8 (8:30am to 10:25am)
    Monday, March 11 (Any time)
    Tuesday, March 12 (10:45am to 12:15pm)
    Wednesday, March 13 (10:45am to 12:15pm)
    Thursday, March 14 (10:45am to 12:15pm)

    Thank You!
